These are from a year ago. Time to reflect on all the good things that have happened to me this last year. Time to spend the holidays with my new family and rejoice. Time to gain a few pounds.

Grounded

A small revelation about gravity. A physical and unseen force bearing down on everything, putting pressure on us to stay on the ground. This force affects us to a molecular level, to a sub-atomic level, even at a chemical level. Could it affect our emotions? I do believe it does, I believe the normal state of any creature on this planet is not happiness, or relaxation (Well, maybe The Dude.) but of constant pressure, to eat, to survive, to mate… this is actually comforting to me, to know that feeling like this is my natural state, and the state of all living things on this planet.

Caretaker

If you want a tree to change direction you don’t just grab a twig and push it till it breaks. The relationship between a bonsai and it’s grower is one of complacency through boundaries. The guiding frame is rigid, the tree must grow naturally, but tamed, elongating his life, shortening it’s size. One could be think the small tree is being coerced and debilitated at will, but another view might be that it is exploring it’s potential at a smaller scale, a harmonious aesthetic balance at the hands of it’s artist caretaker. If it were not for this, the small plant could have no potential at all, because of this it is a firm and small example of perfection.

The Foo. The 95 South Story.

Ok, so everyday experiences don’t really merit a blog entry. But this shit was wild. On Thursday night we hit up the Foo Fighters concert, which was absolutely awesome, a three hour set of great music and extraordinary vocal chord masochism. We dipped around midnight and head down to our house a good 40 mins away, pretty much a straight shot down 95. We were talking and listening to music, still on a nice high from the Foo set, heading down the car pool lane south at 70mph. Suddenly, Annemarie screams “Baby, watch out!” and I fully register what my eyes had already realized but my mind was running to catch up to. A car was heading up our lane going the opposite direction, with absolutely no intention of getting on the shoulder or out of our lane. I swerve out of the way and the dark sedan speeds by, doing close to 70, if not more. After a few seconds of coming back to reality, I told AM to call the police. She did and she gave them the location of the incident. In the back of my mind, I thought ” I wonder what the hell is gonna happen.”.Next day, Annemarie sends me this article. An Opa-locka man traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 collided with another car early Thursday morning, killing both drivers, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Michael Luckie, 24, was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Impala on the wrong side of the highway when he crashed against a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Cedric Baker, 45, shortly after midnight, according to FHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

FHP had received a call before 12:20 a.m. saying a driver was heading the wrong way as Luckie passed the Ives Dairy Road exit, Wysocky said. The crash happened two minutes after that call was placed, near the Pembroke Road exit.

Both men died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, Wysocky said.

I feel very bad for the family of Cedric Baker. It’s an awful feeling to know we could have been a victim of this insane person. It’s no consolation to know he did end up killing somebody else, a man with two children, coming home from work. May he rest in peace and may his family be able to move on.

I imagine it can be pretty easy for some people to recreate themselves all the time, I also imagine most of these people are looking for something more in their lives. Every so often I feel absolutely great and born anew. But it’s never a redefining personality event, it’s just an upgrade. I’ve been challenged lately, I’m used to being challenged in my field, nothing is easy… however, these new challenges strike a deep chord within me it’s not easy to realize you are missing out on many things you thought where simply not for you, it turns out they are, they have lots to add to your life. I’m a bit extreme, it’s either black or white, that’s a defining personality trait engrained in my nature, it has been my latest decade’s determination to change this, to understand balance, but it also seems unattainable. The best I can do is do my best. I will try it out, I’m sure it will add many aspects to my life I never new I could have.
